What Is the Day of the Year?
The "day of year" (also called ordinal date or Julian day number — not to be confused with Julian calendar) is simply the sequential day count from January 1. For example, February 1 is day 32. This numbering is used in logistics, aviation, agriculture, and scientific record-keeping.
In a regular year, there are 365 days. In a leap year, there are 366 — meaning all dates from March 1 onward shift by one day compared to non-leap years.
