About National Hugging Day
National Hugging Day (also known as International Hug Day) was created by Rev. Kevin Zaborney in Michigan in 1986. He chose January 21 because it falls in the emotional low point between the winter holidays and Valentine's Day. Studies show hugging reduces stress hormones and increases oxytocin. The day is now observed in dozens of countries — always with consent as the first rule.
