About World Lion Day
World Lion Day is observed on August 10th, co-founded in 2013 by big cat conservationists Dereck and Beverly Joubert with National Geographic. African lion populations have declined by about half since the 1990s, to roughly 20,000–25,000 in the wild. The day promotes protection of lion habitats and coexistence programs with local communities.
